Introduction
Hey guys welcome back to 2 ½ Stars A podcast about movies on netflix. I’m Steve, and I’m joined by Erik, Kelly, Jason, Ricky

This week we watched: Day of the Dead
Directed by: George A. Romero
Written by: George A. Romero
Starring: Lori Cardille, Terry Alexander, Joseph Pilato
IMDB Synopsis: A small group of military officers and scientists dwell in an underground bunker as the world above is overrun by zombies.

What did you think
Steve
Soldiers and scientists hide from a zombie apocalypse in an underground bunker.

IMDB Did You Know
All extras who portrayed zombies in the climax received for their services: a cap that said “I played a Zombie in ‘Day of the Dead’, a copy of the newspaper from the beginning of the film (the one that says THE DEAD WALK!), and one dollar.

The lowest grossing film in George A. Romero’s “dead” Trilogy. Nonetheless, it’s gained a cult following over the last two decades.

First attempts to shoot the scene where Sara performs surgery on Miguel’s arm failed when it simply bounced off the rubber, so Tom Savini remade it in wax and it worked perfectly.

Some of the headlines from the newspaper that says “The Dead Walk” appear to be: “Vice President declares state of emergency,” “Whereabouts of President Unknown,” “Food Supply Dwindles” and “Man Bites Man.”

Real pig intestines were used during the gore scenes.

Unturned
Developer: Smartly Dressed Games
Designers: Nelson Sexton
Platforms: Microsoft, Linux, and Mac

Previewed by: Jason Spear

Unturned is a free to play zombie themed survival game, designed by Nelson Sexton, a 17 year old Canadian. The visuals are similar to Minecraft but with updates coming out all the time, they are constantly improving.

The game starts by dropping you in the middle of nowhere completely naked and with nothing to defend yourself. You have to find weapons, clothes, food, water, and antidotes to protect against radiation poisoning, Just don’t eat the berries it’s a bad trip. As you work your way through Unturned, you start to find a lot of random items that can be crafted into useful tools such as bullets, grenades, barbed wire, and lights. You can chop down trees to build a safe house or blow up cars to get scrap metal to make a better house. No matter what you build, the zombies can break down your doors and walls without proper defenses and reinforcements. You can also build a garage off of your house to keep your vehicles safe.

A unique feature in Unturned is the ability to modify your vehicle with defenses and storage. Vehicles have a gas meter and take damage, so it is important to have a repair tool and fuel with you while exploring the map.

I’ve run into a few different types of zombies too, like runners, crawlers, normal slow walkers, and green berets who are very hard to kill. On nights with a full moon, the zombies get red eyes and can see you from extremely far away causing hordes of them to come after you. For all the zombie killing that you’ll need to do, you have a variety of weapons knives, axes, baseball bat, pistols, and rifles are some of what you will find.

In the end what you have is a zombie survival game similar to those that are already out, but Unturned has some unique features that set it apart from the rest. I suggest you pick it up in early access today over on Steam.

IMDB Did You Know
The real annabelle doll was a raggedy ann doll.

The baby mobile hanging over the crib plays the same tune as the music box from the conjuring.

The real Annabelle Doll was given to Donna (a college student at the time) by her mother in 1970. Her and her roommate Angie noticed that the doll would move subtlety, then within a few weeks became fully mobile moving from one room to another while they were gone.

The director of this film is also the cinematographer for Child’s Play 3 a film about a killer doll named Chucky.

Director John R. Leonetti and Producer Peter Safran claimed that supernatural phenomena had occurred on the set during filming.

Director John R. Leonetti’s first theatrically released film since Mortal Kombat: annihilation.

Slender: The Arrival
Developed by: Blue Isle Studios
Published by: Midnight City, Majesco Entertainment
Platforms: PS3. PS4, XBOX 360, XBOX  ONE, Wii and PC

Review by: Kelly Anderson

I did it! I made it all the way through! With a month absence from playing the game due to sheer fright, I decided it was time to kick the Slenderman’s ass! The Slenderman started off as a meme created by Eric Knudsen (a.k.a. “Victor Surge”) in 2009.  From there, Slender: The Eight Pages was released in June 2012  which was a beta for Microsoft Windows and OSX. Slender: The Arrival is a first person survival horror game. The length of the game depends on how much time you spend exploring and collecting clues but on average it takes around 2 hours to finish. I got so lost playing this game, every new location that I arrived at, I found another way to get lost. I guess my husband is right, I couldn’t find my way out of a paper bag!

You start out as a girl named Lauren who starts off toward her friend Kate’s house. Apparently Lauren is so dumb she can’t drive down the driveway. All Lauren has on her is a handheld video camera, and no way to defend herself, no mace, no knife, nothing!! Smooth move, ex-lax! Upon entrance of the house something doesn’t seem right. The front door is wide open, there are frightening drawings on the wall, no electricity on and the house seems eerily quiet, thankfully you find a flashlight to light your way. You stumble upon a clue that leads you to search in the woods behind the house. So now you begin your search for clues on the whereabouts of your missing friend. You wander around a few different places with just your shitty flashlight and camera. You are vulnerable, you are alone and you are lost.

In the woods is where you first see the tall, faceless man wearing a suit and red tie, better known as The Slenderman, he definitely is one sharp dressed man. I can’t quite figure out if he has a crush on me and likes to stalk me or he is a process server trying to serve me my papers.  The game is full of jump scares as The Slenderman is known for his teleportation.  Every time you get too close to The Slenderman, he distorts the sound and the screen of your video camera warps the closer you are. The graphics are just good enough to give a sense of realism and not real enough to give you a Matrix style heart attack, which I was probably on the edge of having while playing this game. The scares came mostly from the creepy noises throughout this game including the echoes of footsteps, evil and dark whispers and a nails on a chalkboard type of screech. The sounds and music intensify as you continue playing. The Slenderman definitely provided several jump scares for me! My one year old Border Collie tried to shelter me from danger every time I screamed either that or she was scared and was trying to comfort herself. Poor little baby….well babies, I was pretty pitiful playing this game! Thank goodness that there wasn’t a camera on me!

So when it comes to recommending this game, I say, definitely play it! If you can’t get past a certain part because it is just too frightening for you, please try and finish the game! It does have some repetition which gets a little tiring but if you push through that, the scares are worth it.
